    Question 1 of 10Domain 2 — PMO Strategic Elements

A PMO has been operating for two years and notices that project managers bypass its governance framework, preferring informal reporting channels. Stakeholder satisfaction surveys show declining trust. What should the PMO prioritize to address this situation?

    Question 2 of 10Domain 3 — PMO Design & Structuring

An organization's PMO uses the PMO Value Ring methodology and discovers that its 'Methodology Management' service has high demand but low perceived value among stakeholders. Which action best aligns with the PMO Value Ring approach?

    Question 3 of 10Domain 1 — Organizational Development

During an OPM competency assessment, a PMO discovers that the organization excels at project-level management but struggles with program and portfolio alignment to strategic objectives. According to OPM maturity models, what does this indicate?

    Question 4 of 10Domain 6 — People

A PMO leader is navigating a major organizational transformation in a VUCA environment. Multiple stakeholders have conflicting priorities, and the PMO team shows signs of change fatigue. Which leadership approach is most appropriate?

    Question 5 of 10Domain 4 — PMO Operation & Performance

A PMO establishes SLAs for its project support services. After six months, the PMO meets all SLA targets, but project managers report that the PMO's support doesn't meaningfully improve project outcomes. What does this disconnect reveal?

    Question 6 of 10Domain 3 — PMO Design & Structuring

A newly appointed PMO director is asked by the executive sponsor to demonstrate the PMO's value within 90 days. The PMO currently offers 12 services with no clear prioritization. Which first step best aligns with the PMO Value Ring methodology?

    Question 7 of 10Domain 1 — Organizational Development

A PMO is transitioning from a functional structure to a matrix structure. Project managers report role ambiguity and duplicate reporting lines. What is the PMO's most effective intervention?

    Question 8 of 10Domain 4 — PMO Operation & Performance

A PMO tracks project performance using earned value metrics. CPI is 0.85 and SPI is 1.05 across the portfolio. Which interpretation should the PMO share with executives?

    Question 9 of 10Domain 5 — PMO Enhancement & Effectiveness

A PMO has invested in a new PPM tool but adoption is low after six months. Project managers complain that the tool duplicates existing spreadsheets. What is the most effective response?

    Question 10 of 10Domain 5 — PMO Enhancement & Effectiveness

During a PMO annual review, the executive sponsor asks the PMO director to prove ROI. The PMO has data on process compliance and training hours delivered but not on outcome metrics. What should the PMO director do?

What makes a good PMO-CP practice test

The PMO-CP exam is situational rather than definition-based, so useful practice questions have to behave the same way. Four things are worth checking:

    • Scenario framing, not recall

Each question should open with a situation — a PMO six months into its mandate, a sponsor losing patience, a portfolio with more approved projects than capacity.

    • Four plausible options

Two or three options should be defensible in some context, with only one best given the scenario.

    • Alignment with the PMO Value Ring

The exam is built on the PMO Value Ring methodology and PMI's PMO practice guidance, so benefits, perceived value, and service portfolios should be central.

    • Explanations and proportional coverage

Explanations should say why the best answer wins and why the attractive wrong answer fails, and coverage should follow the published domain weights.

Still deciding on the credential? The PMO-CP certification guide covers eligibility and format, the PMO-CP certification cost page covers fees, and the PMO Value Ring guide explains the methodology behind the questions. If you are also considering PMP, the PMO-CP vs PMP comparison shows how the credentials differ.

How to prepare with practice tests

    Start with a cold baseline

Take a full practice test before studying and record the score per domain. That tells you which domains are genuinely weak rather than which ones you assume are weak.

    Study your two weakest domains

Work through the study summaries for those domains, then run short 10-question quizzes until you are consistently above 75%.

    Review every mistake

Keep a running list of wrong answers and revisit it weekly. Naming the reasoning error — adding a process, reporting more data, pleasing the loudest stakeholder — is more useful than fresh volume.

    Finish with timed rehearsals

Do full 120-question sittings inside the 165-minute limit to practise pacing: roughly 80 seconds per question, flag anything longer, and keep time to revisit flagged items.

Score by domain rather than in total — a 72% overall that hides 45% in People hides a real risk. And explain to yourself why the other three options are wrong; it is slow, and it is the fastest way to internalise PMO-CP reasoning.

    What each domain tests

    Domain 1: PMO Organizational Development

    16%

Covers: How a PMO earns its mandate: understanding the organization it serves, its culture, its decision-making style, and the maturity of its project environment.

    Domain 2: PMO Strategic Elements

    18%

Covers: Linking the PMO to strategy — mission, vision, benefits, and the strategic objectives the PMO is expected to move.

Domain 3: PMO Design and Structuring

    18%

Covers: Choosing services, defining processes, staffing the PMO, and designing the structure that delivers the agreed benefits.

Domain 4: PMO Operation and Performance

    15%

Covers: Running the PMO day to day: KPIs, dashboards, service-level commitments, and performance measurement of the PMO itself.

Domain 5: PMO Enhancement and Effectiveness

    18%

Covers: Continuous improvement: reviewing perceived value, adjusting the service portfolio, and evolving the PMO as the organization changes.

    Domain 6: People

    15%

Covers: Competence models, PMO team development, stakeholder relationships, and the soft skills that decide whether a PMO is trusted.

When you want a full-length sitting, the 75-question PMO-CP Mock Exam samples all six domains proportionally, and the study summaries cover each domain in exam-focused detail.
